PUB Singapore's Water Story
In the article, “Singapore's Water Story,”
PUB (2020) has reported that Singapore’s water demand could doubled by 2060 as
population starting to increase. To keep up with the demand, Singapore tried
numerous ways on water management, such as collecting water from local
catchment, importing water from our neighbouring country, Malaysia, converting used
water to drinkable water and treating desalinate seawater. However, to achieve
a sustainable level of water consumption requires the commitment and
participation of the community, thus, programs are created to educate community
on water conservation and is reported that they see a 15% reduction of household
water consumption of a person per day. The main disadvantage of local catchment
is that it takes up about two-third of Singapore land surface, which in turn,
we can utilise the place to bring people closer to water so that they can
better appreciate and cherish this precious resource under the Active,
Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme.
